weekend link love 07

I guess that these crisp September mornings mean that days of tanning on the balcony are over, but I for one am grasping on to every last remnant of summer that I can. I'll have my fill of pumpkin-spiced everything soon enough, but if you need me in the meantime, I'll be over here sipping the remainder of my Moscow mule.

*No but really - I was way late to the party, but this recipe for Moscow mules was the highlight of my Labor Day bbq.

*Is it weird that I already bought my 2015 wall calendar? It's probably weird. Whatever, I'm weird.

*I think (fingers crossed) that my bridesmaid days are over, but boy do I wish these reversible b-maid's dresses existed a couple years ago!

*This tomato and roasted garlic tart looks delicious, but what really resonated with me was the story that precedes the recipe.

*Loved this.

*If I had a bar, these minimalist cocktail posters from Nick Barclay would totally be hanging as decoration. Heck, I don't have a bar and I still might hang these up in my kitchen.

*I just bought this jacket for our trip to Iceland - so bring on the unpredictable rainstorms, because I'm about to become water-repellant!

*Also in the Iceland department (can you tell I'm excited?!?), we're staying in our first aribnb property while in Reykjavik. I'll write more about it when I get back, but I'm already in love with this company. Want to try it out for yourself? Click here and get $25 off your first stay!

weekend link love 06

I'm off again on another weekend-o-fun (I swear I'll start working again soon...one day...), but until then, here's a quick collection of some my favorite things these here interwebs has had to offer. And as this summer begins its slow countdown, I wish you nothing less than a whole handful of red ripe tomatoes, a cool breeze from a northern lake, and more lazy days on a porch in the sun than you know what to do with :)

*I recently received a refrigerator full of leafy greens from a friend's CSA, and in an attempt to branch out and try new dishes, discovered the delicious wonder that is this cabbage slaw.

*A Gawker blogger put TGI Friday's "endless apps" promotion to the test and lived to tell the tale. She is my hero.

*A while ago, I started following a bizarre little blog that posts hand-drawn pictures of people's grocery lists (the internet is awesome, you guys). Intrigued by this concept, I sent in my own equally bizarre list of ingredients I had to purchase one harried morning before a tech rehearsal. It turned out to be the featured list this past week, and looking at it in pictograph form, I realized that my job is even more ridiculous than I previously thought.

*For your interactive and humanitarian clicking pleasure, this map ranks every country in the world according to a Global Peace Index. I know that no statistic is never fully not skewed, but it's nonetheless fascinating to read.

*I can't wake up without three different alarms, the sun streaming into my face, and preferably a marching band parading through my bedroom. Maybe a coffee-maker-turned-alarm-clock is the solution to my arousal?

*This article is beautifully written, empathetic, and inspiring. And it was published by Buzzfeed. Who knew?

*And finally, in the "this has no category" category, I looked down this afternoon and realized that my nails, tank top, AND phone case were the exact same shade of seafoam green. Is there a color interpreter in the house to help me analyze why I'm suddenly drawn to a color introduced by Crayola in 1949?

weekend link love 05

It seems like everybody and their brother are doing interwebs roundups this summer, and who am I to not jump on a bandwagon? (helloooo, FIFA!) I hope you're all having a lovely July and can take a pause from your bar-b-q-ing and beach reading and peek at what tickled my fancy this month ;)

*All those times I said my bagel place was the best? I wasn't lying!!!

*Going to a zillion weddings this summer? Ease the pain by playing Pinterest Wedding Bingo. Added bonus if you turn it into a drinking game.

*My dad rocks and shipped me my childhood bike! Now to try out some of New York's best bike rides.

*And now we know what Eloise (yes, that little girl who lived in the Plaza) has been up to

*So our oven broke last week (boo). But fingers crossed that we're getting a new one oh so very soon (yay!) And when we do, I can't wait to make this pie, this pizza, and these muffins. Waistline be damned!!

*I didn't know bunting necklaces were a thing, but now I do, and now I want one.

*My love for OK Go was already pretty solidified when they turned a music video into one giant, continuous, four-minute long Rube-Goldberg machine, but their newest video might just be my favorite one yet.

*And finally, for the ultimate in physical comedy, I quite literally laughed so hard I cried while watching this.

weekend link love 04

Apologies for the radio silence as of late! It takes a lot of work to make a play, and I've been logging some long hours these past few weeks to get this play off the ground and into the theater. We're almost open, and it's shaping up to be a pretty fantastic show! While I haven't been able to spend too much time scouring the interwebs, here are some things that did catch my eye ;)

*I'm a little late to the game, but there's an entire art form dedicated to the spirit of doodling - it's called Zentangle, and I honestly haven't been able to put down my Sharpie marker since discovering it.

*I love love LOVE this photo book that recreates fictitious dishes described in literature. Ever wanted to see what Gatsby's buffet or The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's cheese sandwich may have looked like in real life? Now you can.

*I always wondered how Monica and Rachel managed to afford their massive Greenwich apartment, but this brilliant infographic proves that it was all just TV magic.

*My beloved pinkie ring disappeared a few weeks ago and I'm crushing on these as possible replacements: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

*An interesting look at the psychology behind, and trickery of, our brains and food.

*This is random, beautiful, and utterly captivating.

*You guys. In planning our next vacation, I discovered that Icelandic horses have a fifth gait known as a tölt. New goal: use more umlauts in life.  New NEW goal: ride like this guy.

*And finally, plant graffiti is apparently a thing. Now if only I could figure out how to do something like that on my balcony.

Have a lovely weekend!!

*Ever wanted to crack an egg underwater? These guys did. And the results are pretty rad.

*Last week I made a loaf of no-knead bread and was insanely happy with the results. Now, I can't wait to try some variations - cinnamon nut! cheese and chive! pepper and garlic! chocolate! - the possibilities are endless.

*I try to keep my theater life separate from my blog life, but this hit home.

*For all the budding subway cartographers out there (don't be shy, I know you exist!) a reimagining of the New York City subway. I kinda dig it!

*It was the OED 2013 Word of the Year, so you might as well read a seriously fascinating history of the selfie.

*Spring has sprung in New York (finally), so you might as well cover yourself with a pretty yellow umbrella!

*This takes playing with your food to a whole new (and visually stunning) level

*While here you can take a trip around the world through all your favorite foods.

*And for your daily dose of pie, this is so simple yet so effective.

weekend link love 02

*Here is a good reminder not to work too hard.

*Some local love - they're talking about the possibility of a Queens highline (yes please!) and the new Astoria Flea & Food Market will be located in the Kauffman-Astoria backlot!

*An interesting series on how to pick and keep a life partner.

*Book report: I couldn't put down Donna Tartt's The Goldfinch - it's a hefty read (it clocks in at 784 pages) but it takes you on a wild journey from New York to Las Vegas to Amsterdam as the protagonist tries to protect a stolen work of art. I repeat - I couldn't. put it. down.

*This blew my mind!

*I'm thinking it's time to treat myself to a new film camera from Lomography ;)

*Did you ever wonder what would happen if artists designed buildings? Because this guy did. And the result is awesome.

*A public note to Instagram - thank you, thank you for making the lux effect slider!

*Nerd Alert: I know they're only one episode in, but I'm loving the new Cosmos series on the National Geographic channel.

*Did you (or are you planning to) watch the Veronica Mars movie this weekend? I curled up with a giant tub of popcorn and loved every minute of it. Go Pirates!

weekend link love 01

As the old saying goes, if you can't take the cold, get out of the north! (or something like that). I'm headed out on a most (MOST) needed vacay, but in the mean time, here are some rockin' links to keep you smiling. xoxo, Mary

*My old-man-crush Anthony Bourdain is reported to be opening an Asian-styled food market here in New York. I will be there. With bells on.

*Don't laugh - I bought this plastic banana holder on Amazon a while back, and it's seriously the best thing I've ever purchased. No more bruised bananas!!

*I love some good armchair psychology - James Clear writes how some simple environmental changes can help you eat healthier, increase your willpower, and reverse some bad habits.

*Still battling those pesky winter blues? Here are 100 tips for happiness. You don't have to follow all of them, but a few might spark a good idea or be the nudge you need to get over this week's hump.

*I must have spirals on the brain - I finally saw the Richard Serra exhibit at the Gagosian, then I fell in love with the floating spiral staircase in this house, and then I fell in even more love with the Serra-inspired shower in this apartment.

*I'm Etsy-obsessing over bracelets this week - I just think these, these, and this one are just so pretty!

*Wise words on creativity from Ira Glass.

*I'm probably a little late to the game on this one, but here is a fascinating report on the State of the Blog Union.

*And for this week's daily dose of pie, this is an amazingly sweet blend of baking and design.
